But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum -
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
T. S. Eliot described Tantomile as "A Witches' Cat".
The twins are magical cats, mystical psychics who not only understand each other without speaking a word, but also channel Old Deutoronomy's wisdom. Very, very rarely do you see them apart, and they are as near identical as possible.
Normally the twins are sleek, quiet characters, moving in perfect unison. Their costumes are reminiscent of the clouded moon in the set, they are the epitome of Jellicle Cat. However there are exceptions - the original Hamburg cast decided that, for promo shots, Coricopat was to be blue. He looked quite normal onstage! Also the Japanese productions have reversed names, Cassandra and Tumblebrutus are the names of the twins, with the smooth, brown queen being named Tantomile and the tom-kitten names Coricopat. For simplicity's sake, I have included in this gallery the twins, the characters who match Cori and Tant in other productions.
